Q:Does the symbol on Neels forehead mean anything.
Yes it does.
Ancient practioners of Medicine in India followed a philosophical system called the Shankya tatva. According to this philosophy , the world was created by the power of Prakriti (nature) and Purusha(thought /consiousness). Prakriti or nature is created by the combination of 3 gunas (characters )
1. Rajasic(Fiery /aggressive)
2.Thamasic(cool/passive)
3. Satvic (spritual/neutral)
Neel's spiral triangle is a representation of this in balance -which is essential for good health according to Ayurveda. The rest is the representation of Purusha acting of these gunas. I have heard it looks a bit similar to the symbol used to represent Rekhi. If you are more interested in the Sankya Philosophy you could google it.
Q:Will you update more often?
When I started Kinnari I was sure I would be able to make Kinnari a bi weekly comic. But I am learning so many things both art and story wise that this is all I can do for now. But I still hope to make it biweekly.
Q:Can I use some portions of your drawings in , journal, website, blog...
The art work in Kinnari can only be used for non commercial purposes. I would appreciate if you could mention the source of origin, when you do so.
Q: Will you open a forum for Kinnari?
That is a very ambitious idea. It is also a big responsibility. A forum is a good idea when there is a lot of traffic and the visitors are chatty. I am a reluctant chatter and will be bound to run into difficulties because of this. That idea will have to wait.
Q:Will Kinnari go into print?
The beginning of Kinnari was printed in ComixIndia vol 1. But I have been reluctant since then. Both my art and story are evolving and I am already tempted to redo some of my previous pages because the flow rubs me the wrong way, or my art is really bad. I would be reluctant to print what I am not happy about, and I don't want to let the corrections consume the comic time. Once I can find the balance I will think about it. For now Kinnari is exclusively for web entertainment.
Q:How long is Kinnari going to be?
When I started Kinnari it was meant to be 6 chapter long, and each chapter was longer than it is now. But then some of it needed editing. So the story has actually stretched in some places and shrunk in other. Now I am really not sure how long it will be.
Q: Is the story original?
Yes and No. The story derives inspiration from a lot of different places including Sanskrit plays, myths and history . Sometimes the characters and their background have original sources. The pot they are cooked in and the recipe is very original.
Q:I have a story idea, will you be interested in doing the art for it?
Kinnari and the life beyond Kinnari has kept me fully occupied. Even though it is so, my head is all full of ideas just like yours. Though I would hate to let an interesting idea go by, I just can`t manage it right now. I will take a rain check on that in a years time.
